SOUL SEARCHING

It was a warm night in Sunnydale, California, but none of the Scooby gang could enjoy it. They were all in the library because Giles was making them research why there hadn’t been any vampire activity since Graduation. "Giles? Could we please enjoy this night? Isn’t it good that there are no vampires around?" Buffy whined from her perch upon Angel’s lap.

"We should be prepared. They may be planning something. There may be a new boss in town."

"Please? Giles, I need a break."

"Buffy, we must research. What comes next could be worse than this."

"Fine. I never get to have any fun." She leaned back into Angel, and as he wrapped his arms around her, and kissed the back of her head.

"Giles! I found something!" Willow yelled from the stacks. "I’ll read it:

‘The man, Angelus, will come forth, the one with no soul. The man will wreak havoc on all he shall meet. The only thing that can stop him is an act of true love and selflessness. There is one who can do this for him, the only one that he has ever loved. Their relationship was forbidden by all, but love always won in the end. When this act of love happens, only then can that man be free. For then, he shall be ensouled permanently…’

"And the rest is missing."

"Oh my god," Buffy said. "Angel, do you know what this means?"

"Yeah. It means that my soul is permanent."

"Yeah, and it also means that you were gonna leave me for no reason."

"Will I ever live that one down?"

"In a while. You still have a lot of making up to do." A smile crept across Buffy’s face. Angel knew what she was thinking. He would make it up to her, no matter how what he had to do. "Well, Giles, Angel and I are leaving. See you tomorrow." With that, Buffy pulled Angel out of the library. The headed over to the mansion to, ahem, celebrate.

Later that night, a figure looked in one of the windows of the mansion and watched the lovers sleep. She smiled knowing that they would always be together, no matter what happened. She looked at the piece of torn paper in her hand and read to herself, "And these two lovers will forever belong in the company of each other." Fate looked upon the lovers once more before disappearing in the darkness.
