The Strength of Our Love

by Cass

Disclaimer: Buffy, Angel, Riley and the rest of the cast belong to Joss Whedon, Fox, the WB, and Mutant Enemy. I don't own them, so please, don't sue. Unless you wanna take my Buffy bears from me. But if you tried that, I'd hve to hurt you, and I really hate violence.
Rating: PG
Note: This started out comedic, but in the end it changed when I wanted to have it as a series. And I just had to have some weird way to get rid of Riley. Call it therapy J Anyway, this part was co-written by Hannah
Another Note: This is a part of a series that I plan to write. I'm hoping that it goes well. So be looking for more.

Buffy and Riley were walking down the sidewalk together in silent contemplation of their situation when a big cow jumped in the road!

"Bessy!" Riley yelled. He ran in the road to hug his cow. "How did you know I was here? I miss you so much. what was that? Oh, that's Buffy, we're going out. I know I said you'd be the only girl for me, but I was lonely... what's that? You still love me? Oh! I love you too! Let's run away together!" Riley jumped on the back of Bessy, and they road off into the sunset together.

Buffy looked at them with complete confusion. "What just happened?" She asked herself. She shook the confusion out of her head. Buffy continued walking down the sidewalk searching for any evil lurky things that might be around. Suddenly she felt some movement and turned around quickly only to find Riley and Bessy mating! It was the most disgusting thing she had ever seen. Buffy turned around and walked back to the dorm room. She was still pretty confused, so when Willow asked her what was wrong, she told her.

"Eeeeeew!!!!" Willow said scrunching up her nose.

"Yeah I know." Buffy said agreeing. "There's something always weird about my boyfriends, Angel was a vampire, Parker used girls for sex, Riley likes a cow. Sheesh I'll never find Mr. Right."

"Oh don't say that Buffy. There's someone out there for you. You'll find them."

"No, I'll never find them, cause I already have him. I'm going to LA Will, bye."

"But-" Buffy was already out the door.

She got to LA and found the detective agency once again. She walked in to see a very surprised Cordelia.

"Buffy! Hi! What's up?"

"Hi Cordelia. I heard you were working for Angel. I didn't believe it, but now that I see it... wow. How are you doing?"

"I'm doing good. Angel's been a real help. When I was down, he let me stay here until we found a new place for me. He also gave me the job when I couldn't find any acting jobs."

"Wow, sounds like he's been making amends. With all that he's doing, he probably doesn't even think of me anymore."

"Of course he does Buffy. He never stops thinking of you." Just at that moment Angel and Doyle walked through the door of Angel's office. Buffy looked up at him and waited for him to notice her.

"Buffy." Angel said.

"Hi Angel."

"What are you doing here?"

"I- I came to see you."

"Is there anything wrong?"

"No, yes."

"No or yes Buffy, You can tell me."

"Yes."

"Is that your final answer?" Cordelia said. She received 3 icy glares.

"Come into my office and explain to me what's wrong." So they both walked into his office.

"Ok, Buffy what's wrong?" he asked as soon as they entered his office. Buffy broke down in tears. Angel rushed over to her, and placed a hand on her back, rubbing it gently, trying not too get too close. "Shh.

Shh. It's going to be ok."

Buffy shook her head. "No no no. NO! It's never going to be okay. As long as you're here, and I'm in Sunnydale, it's all wrong. Angel, it's all wrong. I want you so much. I tried to move on, but i couldn't. I love you. I just love you."

At that very instant Angel's heart broke. He couldn't believe that he had been putting her through this the whole time. He'd thought he was helping her, making her see that their love could really never be, but all he saw now was pain, and sadness. The opposite of what he wanted for her

"Oh god, Buffy. I'm so sorry. I thought that by leaving you, I was doing the right thing. I'm sorry. I'm just so sorry." They continued to cry, clinging to each other as their life depended on it. Which it more than likely did. When their crying subsided they kissed softly, for the first time in months. The first kiss was gentle and loving, but the ones to follow had increasingly more passion.

Suddenly there as a knock at the door and it was none other than Whistler. "Well, well, I see you too kids worked everything out. Me and the Powers were starting to wonder about you two."

"Whistler? What are you doing here?" Angel asked.

"Well, you see. When you decided that you had to leave in order to save Buffy, the Powers and I had a little chat. We decided that there were some things that needed to be done. We were also hoping that you two would bring yourselves back together instead of us having to do it for you. You see, we need you two together. You both have a destiny to fulfill in a matter of years, and if you aren't together, then the world comes crashing down."

"So what are you saying?"

"We need you together. And we need to make sure that Angel here doesn't turn all bad if you do the fandango, so we're going to turn him human. He'll retain his strength of course."

Buffy and Angel looked at each other. "What do we have to do?"

"Here's the catch. You have two years until he can regain it. You guys will have to fight side by side, just like you used to. There's still the curse, so you can't do anything. If by the time of two years, you guys can stay with each other, and being able to stand not having each other, the necessary things will be done."

They looked at each other again. "Okay," they said in unison.

"So I'll leave you two kids to talk about your plans." Whistler said and walked away and out of the building.

"So." Buffy said

"So, I guess I'm moving back to Sunnydale?"

"Yeah, I think so. Angel, there's just one more thing?"

"Yeah?"

"I want to move in with you."

"What about your dorm with Willow? Won't she be insulted?"

"Of course not! And besides she can move in with Oz. She'll be happy, I'll be happy, you'll be happy, well not too happy cause you know.."

"I'd be honored for you to move in with me."

TWO WEEKS LATER

"Is that everything?" Angel yelled to Buffy as he moved a box into the upstairs bedroom.

"Yeah, I think so. Let's take a break, and eat dinner, and then we'll work on putting the bed together."

"Okay."

Buffy and Angel enjoyed a quiet meal of Chinese take-out. It felt normal, just them together. Angel started to eat normal food because Whistler explained to him that he only needed blood about once a month, and needed to get his nutrients from human food. After they finished their meal, they went upstairs to assemble their bed. Though they couldn't make love, they both agreed that they would sleep better if they shared.

That night, they lay there holding each other, enjoying the company of each other. Angel broke out of his thoughts and found Buffy looking up at him.

"What?" he asked with a smile.

"Oh, nothing. This seems like a dream. I mean two weeks ago, you were in LA, and I was here and we had no future. But now, we have forever. It's what I always wanted with you."

"Me too. I love you."

"I love you, too." Angel kissed Buffy goodnight, and they fell asleep in each others arms. Together they began their two years of finding the strength of their love.

The End
